Silence is golden.
Stolin is a 16-year-old boy placed in the Nariamar monastery by parents unable to care for him. In this enclosed place where silence is sacred, the confirmed monks have their mouths sewn shut and spend their time copying books containing holy scriptures. Stolin painfully endures these constraints… So, when he discovers Ernao Piranesi’s secular book, he cannot resist stealing it to read it quietly in his cell. The old monk’s memoirs begin 50 years earlier.
At the time when Baron Ytrium, victorious in a bloody battle against heretics, decides to imprison the survivors in the dungeons of the monastery where Ernao is steward.
One of the prisoners will then find himself at the center of a debate whose proportions will only continue to escalate. To some, he is Ciimon Bracchio, a simpleton mistakenly arrested during the debacle. To others, he is the formidable Darst Vostri, charismatic and deranged leader of a group of fundamentalists who have been spreading heresy for decades.
Which of these two sides will obtain justice? And who hides behind this strange figure who inspires the most contradictory feelings?
