Every year, Reims becomes the epicenter of the comics world.
The Reims Interplanetary Comics Festival, or FIBDR for those in the know,
brings together authors, illustrators, publishers, readers, and dreamers from all walks of life.
The event has established its own unique style: friendly, free-spirited, and joyfully interplanetary, far removed from glitz and rigid conventions.
A festival on a human scale, but with real energy
At the FIBDR, the atmosphere is relaxed: people wander, explore, chat, and discover.
People come to get their albums signed, attend a live drawing performance, discover a new author, or simply chat between drawings.
The atmosphere is relaxed, the booths welcoming, and the artists always available to exchange a word, an anecdote, or a drawing.
The authors take their time; you can talk to them, ask questions, and discover the behind-the-scenes aspects of an album.
A diverse range of guests and worlds
What’s striking about the FIBDR is the diversity of its guests.
For example, depending on the edition, we’ve seen:
- authors from Brittany
- illustrators from Lyon or Angoulême
- screenwriters from Paris
- independent artists from the north, Lille, and Amiens
and of course, artists from Reims, former residents, and up-and-coming local talent.
Among the typical profiles you might encounter are science fiction illustrators, children’s authors, historical screenwriters, colorists, and self-published independent artists.
Moreover, each edition of the FIBDR has its own unique character, theme, and atmosphere. Some years highlight local talent and the creative energy of Reims; others explore science fiction, graphic crime fiction, ecology, manga, or illustrated reportage.
The spirit of FIBDR in one sentence
More than just a convention, the Reims Interplanetary Comics Festival is a celebration of creativity and sharing.
It’s a festival where generations meet, whether they’re from Reims or the other end of France, where disciplines intersect, where comics open up to the world, without pretension, but with great passion.
Year after year, the FIBDR grows, without ever losing its soul: that of an event created by comics lovers, for all those who love stories, images, and the freedom to dream.
