Some career paths don’t follow a straight line. Arnaud Locquet’s is one of them.
An engineer by training, he gradually transitioned into the artistic world, starting with motion design before dedicating himself fully to comics.
Although self-taught in comics, Locquet hasn’t abandoned his professional rigor: his experience in audiovisual production and motion design gives him a solid mastery of graphic design and visual storytelling.
A pivotal moment in his career came when he met Jean-David Morvan at a MasterClass in Brussels. Locquet then joined The Tribe, the Reims-based collective founded by Morvan, a creative springboard that allowed him to get involved in ambitious projects.
Locquet’s style is realistic, combining a clean, expressive line with carefully chosen colors. He takes on the roles of both illustrator and colorist, depending on the project.
He is particularly drawn to documentary and historical narratives, which is strongly reflected in his choice of subjects.
For example, in the graphic novel Magnum Generation(s), he participated in a very ambitious project: retracing the birth and early days of the Magnum photo agency, delving into the stories of great photographers like Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Gerda Taro.
Another example of his involvement in localized narratives is Reims, Volume 1, From Clovis to Joan of Arc.
In this volume, Jean-David Morvan wrote the script while Locquet provided the artwork and coloring, weaving a historical panorama from Antiquity to the Middle Ages centered around the city of Reims.
Locquet is also involved in darker series, such as Stéphane Bourguoin présente les Serial Killers. Locquet handles both the artwork and coloring in this dark and disturbing story about one of the most studied serial killers, with a visual style that is both realistic and unsettling.
