Epiphany Fright is a little girl who grows up alongside—but more slowly than—her fear.

Her hair is constantly standing on end. She’s afraid of everything, all the time.

This fear—an enormous black mass that takes on different shapes—follows her everywhere, clinging to her feet like her shadow.

“Aaahhh!!! You scared me! What is that?”

“My fear, actually.”

“It looks like your shadow.”

“Yes, I’m afraid of my shadow.”

On the cusp of her ninth birthday, Epiphany longs to tame it so it no longer holds her captive.
During this quest, she has some astonishing encounters—each more outlandish than the last: a psychiatrist, a hairdresser, a knight without fear or reproach, a lion tamer, a fortune teller. Will she forge new bonds that will make her stronger?
